Community volunteering
Are you interested in community projects and development?
Are you looking for something to do?
Would you like to experience the rewards that come with being
part of a community organisation?
Why not join the volunteer program?
GPTT wishes to support registrars and their families to participate
in volunteering activities and in so doing to:
- Form new friendships and professional relationships
- Increase experience and knowledge of community organisations
- Learn about specific health issues and populations
- Assist volunteer groups to provide services to the community
Best of all, its fun!
The GPTT volunteer program will begin in 2008 with some short term assignments
in local organisations. It is hoped that the program will expand in the
future to include some opportunities for longer projects further afield.
GPTT will assist registrars by:
- Providing organisational assistance and advice
- Crediting some volunteer time towards training requirements
- May be able to assist with some expenses
If you have a particular interest or organisation you would like to be involved with please discuss with Dr Kristen FitzGerald.

Getting started
Getting started is easy. Think about what sort of position you would like and contact Dr Kristen FitzGerald You can then complete the Community Volunteering Precommencement Checklist to prepare for your experience. This is found on GPRime under Forms & Documents in the Documents section. If you wish to work with children you will need to complete a police check which can take up to 2 weeks so get started well ahead of any particular event you wish to be involved with. Take some time to reflect on what you want out of your volunteering experience and of what you want to contribute to your local community. What community issues do you feel strongly about? Which sections of the community would you prefer to work with?
Once you have finished
Complete the iform on GPRime - found in Forms & Documents. This will then be submitted to your portfolio.
